Course Dates for SVK Course in Clinical Diabetes for Karolinska Institute Medical students

General Information:

The course comprises, clinics, lectures in Diabetes, case presentations and discussions. The students will be divided into smaller groups of 2 or 3.

Each group will rotate various clinics such as:

  • Out-patient, Opthalmology for diabetic eye disease)
  • Diabetic foot clinic
  • Cardiology
  • Nephrology
  • Nutrition/Dietician
  • Gestational Diabetes etc.

In addition students will also be taken to Public Health Center (Primary care facility) and a Government Hospital (tertiary care center) to get a feeling on the way healthcare is delivered.

Our group is involved in studies of immunology and hereditary factors of the immunity of Autoimmune Diabetes (AD). AD can be divided into: (i) Type 1 Diabetes occurring predominantly in children and less in older individuals, and (ii) Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA).


The overall aim of the course is to provide medical students in the course with a full clinical exposure in Diabetes. The students who will participate in the course will be educated in the theoretical aspects of diabetes mellitus at Karolinska Institutet and
